The Valentines Day decorations are filling the stores earlier this year.
When I see a job desk for Valentines Day and person’s area is covered in expensive candy and roses I don’t think “Wow he loves you!” I think “What horrible thing is he apologizing for?”
The Valentines Day decorations are filling the stores earlier this year, and it is not a happy moment. Seriously, isn’t paying money for love called prostitution? All year long girls try to be independent and strong without clinging to a guy, and on Valentines Day sneer down at the one person in the office that does not have flowers all over their desk. I have worked plenty of temp jobs where I was the ONE girl who did not have flowers all over her typing desk. Being a temp I did not know the “flaunt your gifts” tradition. Friends have since pointed out that many women were perhaps buying the flowers and candy themselves to put on their own desk. They may be single and desperately hiding it. In addition, if men are buying that much flowers and candy they may be overcompensating for horrible spousal abuse. Is Valentines Day a testimony to how secretly common spousal abuse is in our culture that so many men have to overcompensate with gaudy and ostentatious gifts? If you only feel loved when people pay lots of cash to love you the self esteem problem may be with you, and not your date.
